Pottstown Borough Council voted 5-2 to approve developer Greg Lingo’s plan for three sets of twin homes on the site of the former Transfiguration Lutheran Church, which was destroyed in a fire last November. The approval came with a 17-condition addendum that must be met before construction begins, including that the project match the artist’s rendering, that the solicitor review the homeowners association rules, that a rear driveway easement be granted, and that a representative of the brick facing manufacturer be present during installation. Councilmembers Lisa Vanni and Andrew Monastra voted no, with Monastra calling the addendum “toothless” and saying he opposed the resolution, not the project. Vanni said her vote was meant to hold the developer accountable. The vote followed a contentious work session the week before, where council members criticized shifting plans and the switch to thin brick facing, after the developer’s attorney said the church’s original brick could not be salvaged.
