Honey Brook weighs future of land-preservation income tax

Published Friday, October 30, 2026

Honey Brook Township is reviewing the future of its 0.5% earned income tax dedicated to farmland and open space preservation, a program approved by voters in 2005 that generates an average of about $840,000 annually. The township’s Land Preservation Committee has been examining the program’s finances and options as officials consider whether to continue or reduce the tax, or seek voter approval for a change. About 4,710 acres, or roughly 35% of the township’s farmland, have been preserved through the program and partnerships with county, state and other organizations, according to the Chester County Planning Commission. The program is projected to wind down in 2032 after contributing an estimated $20 million in township funds toward about $60 million in preservation spending.
