Norristown Area School District is developing a $300,000 "extended learning program" offering expanded before- and after-school activities. It could launch as early as October, giving students, staff and parents time to settle into routines, and run in two eight- or 10-week cycles through March 2027. Programming would vary by level: elementary schools would focus on academic support and enrichment, middle schools on academics plus social-emotional learning, and high schools on course success, test prep and future readiness, with particular attention to fifth-graders transitioning to middle school and ninth-graders transitioning to high school. Proposed hours would run roughly from 7 to 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. depending on grade level, including time for breakfast and a snack. Additional morning transportation cannot be offered, and afternoon bussing is planned "as applicable." Next steps include surveying families, boosting staff participation, and lining up resources and transportation before registration opens.
