Morton Borough Council is considering establishing a 1% earned income tax on borough residents and nonresidents who work in the borough. Borough officials say the tax would provide general revenue to fund essential services, including police protection, infrastructure maintenance, fire and emergency services, employee wages and benefits, pensions, retirement health costs and debt service, while diversifying the borough’s tax base and potentially allowing property taxes to be lowered for residents. The public is invited to attend a special meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at the borough building, 500 Highland Ave.
