Millennial homeownership in the Philadelphia region nearly doubled between 2018 and 2023 (up about 92%, from roughly 201,000 to 386,000 households), outpacing every other major Northeastern metro and beating the 74% national growth rate, according to a RentCafe analysis. Experts attribute the surge to the region's relatively low home prices, strong job market, solid wage growth, and ample supply of starter homes like rowhouses, along with older housing stock and homebuyer assistance programs — factors that helped local millennials' incomes grow faster (about 38%) than home prices (about 18.5%) over the same period. By 2023, roughly 56% of the area's millennial households owned their homes, while renter growth stayed nearly flat.
