Upper Providence to consider new sidewalk and curb maintenance ordinance

Published Friday, August 14, 2026

Upper Providence Township supervisors will consider enacting an ordinance amending Chapter 264 (Streets and Sidewalks) to add a new Article IV governing maintenance of sidewalks, curbs and aprons, including manmade trails within 50 feet of a public street. The ordinance would establish maintenance responsibilities and repair specifications, set notice procedures, allow the township to perform required work itself and bill property owners plus a 10% penalty if they fail to comply. The proposed ordinance also reserves the township's right to require construction of new sidewalks, curbs and aprons. The proposal will be considered at a hearing on Monday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. A complete copy of the proposed ordinance is available for review at the township administration building, 1286 Black Rock Road, Phoenixville.
