Voters in Delaware County will see a referendum question on their Nov. 3 election ballots, asking whether the county council can spend $120 million on open space and environmental projects. The resolution being considered by council would ask voters “whether they favor an increase in the debt of the county by an amount not to exceed $120 million to finance land conservation, including protecting drinking water sources, water quality in rivers and creeks, and wildlife habitat; conserving trees and wetlands; providing greenways and parks; and protecting natural areas from development.” Councilwoman Christine Reuther noted the bond would allow the county to support projects initiated by municipalities, municipal authorities or whoever is working on environmental issues for the benefit of county residents. The council said the bond would cost the average assessed household about $24 per year. The referendum needs to receive more than 50% of voter approval to pass.
