In a surprising move, Upper Darby Township Council voted to keep the real estate tax rate unchanged for the new year. Chief administrative officer Crandall Jones recommended amending the ordinances to reflect that the rate would be 14.02 mills for general funds. Solicitor Sean Kilkenny said a tax rate can be advertised at a higher rate but can be brought down to a lower rate without having to re-advertise. According to Jones, funds for the budget will be raised through a combination of revenue from new fees, plus the existing fund balance.
