Biden sets 10-year deadline for cities to replace lead pipes nationwide

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, which set a 10-year deadline for cities across the nation to replace their lead pipes, finalizing an aggressive approach aimed at ensuring that drinking water is safe for all Americans. Though the dangers of lead pipes have been known for decades, there are more than nine million lead service lines nationwide, including about 689,000 in Pennsylvania. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, championed by President Biden, included $15 billion to replace lead services and an additional $11.7 billion that can be used for both drinking water projects and lead pipe replacement.
