Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order creating Pennsylvania’s first comprehensive Housing Action Plan. The executive order gives the state’s Department of Community and Economic Development and Department of Human Services one year to create a housing action plan by working with stakeholders to create a road map for building more affordable housing while addressing homelessness. Shapiro noted other steps his administration has taken to increase affordable housing, including the expansion of property tax/rent rebate program, expanding affordable housing by increasing the cap for the Pennsylvania House Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund, and investing in access to counsel for residents facing eviction.
