These anti-fraud tools monitor a broad array of documents and provide an early warning in the form of a notification to property owners when any document — such as a mortgage, deed or mortgage satisfaction — related to a specific parcel is recorded under that parcel’s ID.

 

Additional tip:  Residents should be careful not to fall for schemes in which third-party firms try to sell new homeowners copies of their deeds for as much as $100. The documents can be obtained at minimal cost by contacting the county recorder of deeds office.
